Meeting Aesclepius

I found that this exercise was hardest for me to completely focus. I'm not sure if it was because I was trying to hard to find that male or female image, or that I was pretty tired from the long day that I had. I have not had the chance to meditate, however I have had the chance to read my daily word from Joel Osteen, and some exercising that helps me to relax and start my day. I would image that staying focused and not dozing off can help with these meditation exercises.

"One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" (p.477). I think that if you have done something yourself you can explain it better instead of being the outsider looking in on a situation and giving your two cents on a situation that you have never experience. For example I cant tell someone to exercise and eat right because it would improve your body, while I sit on the couch eating everything in sight and then falling asleep, in other words practice what your preach and you can be taken seriously. I think that I do have the obligation to my clients regarding health psychologically, physically, and spiritually only if I'm leading by example. In terms of incorporating psychological and spiritual growth in myself I must follow what I say and bring those things to past opposed to just saying and not doing at all.

  1. Hi Nelly,
I think your right that dosing off would make it a little harder to concentrate, or you could say that you were so relaxed by this exercise that it made you fall asleep while meditating, lol. I agree that we cannot give our two cents if we have no cents to give. You could not have said it any better, “practice what you preach.” Another saying I like is, “you can lead the horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” Even if we do have the experience we can’t make people do it, they must take the initiative and do it for themselves, we cannot make them do it or do it for them. We are responsible for our own actions and our own lives and if we want to fix it we must try to follow others advise and help ourselves.
    Good Blog, Nicki

  2. Hello Nelly,

That is funny...lol! Meditation does have an effect of making some go to sleep even it they are not tired as you were that day. I would say that if you are tired it would not be a good idea to try an meditate. I have try to do that after I had a long day and was unsuccessful and dozed off as well.I would definitely agree that if you are in a tired mental state that the focus of the practice would be successful.Meditation put in a state that is calming and relaxing to the mind and body leaving you hanging in the balance to flow free.

I agree with you on practice what you preach. The well-being of you the practitioner is an example for those who are trying to be successful in health, spirituality, physical or mental states. Good post!

  3. Hi Nelly, I agree with you completely if you don't have the experience or have gone through the same journey it will be difficult to teach or explain the concept. Great post. Ivonne

  4. Hi Channell,

I also found myself having a hard time finding someone to focus on. I ended up focusing on three people. Could not get any other them out of my mind. They all kept appearing in my mind. It was very interesting to say the least. I did however, finish the session.

Yes, you have to go on the same journey as what you are preaching or teaching.
